A vintage style screen door & a stencil/spackeling technique you wont want to miss

Hello and welcome......Today I am sharing a vintage style screen door that I have crafted from some scraps of wood, some pieces of an old shutter, vinyl spackling  a stencil, paint, and some other décor items I have collected. For some buying old vintage windows , doors and shutters is easy, but in these parts not much around. If there is something of that nature the price will be ridiculous.  Grab a coffee and let me show you a bit.

This screen door is about 2 ft wide and 6 ft high. It is just for decorative purposes, although it could be made to fit a doorway or long window. I started by gathering some wood from my stash which was 2 pieces about 3"/ 6 ft. long. then 2 more about 2 ft. x 3", then one pine board for the middle about 2ft 3 in.. I constructed all that using my electric screw driver I thought I would add a bit of  fancy so I had some pieces of a shutter that came apart and a metal band so I attached the shutter pieces then the band.

The next step was to do the vinyl spackling which is very easy this will give the 3-d look to the design on the center board of the door. You will need a scraper ,a small one works best, a stencil of your choice and a tube of spackling it also comes in tiny tubs as well.

You can try it out on cardboard if you like. Just place the stencil down take the scraper and fill in the stencil ,once its all filled in scrape the top so it is even then simply lift the stencil off  carefully. And that's it. now you will let it dry to the hardness . This is a good time to get your paint color choices together while your waiting.

You will love the results of this process, I also have done this to my plain jane kitchen cabinets that can be viewed at Hometalk or here.

Ok now that all is dried your going to need at least 2 color choices . Here I chose black and my all time favorite Vintage blue green , my own made up name seeing I mix it from Opps paints which I have shared in the past.

You will want to first paint it the dark base color I used spray on that. Then I took the light color and used it for distressing and the center piece. I just painted the middle piece then took a damp rag and wiped it away gently so that you could see the crevasses on the design.

I added a cute flower basket

Old dining room border wallpaper with a new farmhouse style

Hi there, happy you could stop by today! Love sharing all my crafts with all of you. You know how you just keep staring at that something ? You know you want to change it but you ponder all the ideas you can until that one idea strikes at you!  Well for me it was my dining room wall border. It has been up for about 6 years or so , so its time to go.

I had bought all these stencils including some nice lettering. so this is what I came up with after spending countless hours trying to find the perfect wall border.

Just a simple black paint to the existing border and then stenciling Farm animals such as..

 Cows and Pigs

It seems to sew the room together a bit.  This is a simple project that can be done with just the cost of a bit of paint and a stencil.

Thanks so much for visiting !

A Homemade Barn window to add some farmhouse whimsey

Hi there, welcome........Spring Fever is in the air! I have been doing some planting that I will share soon. I just love digging in the dirt in the Florida sunshine. To spite the fact we have been through our drought season many things have been growing out of control.

I had made a faux barn window some time ago....my son was making a playhouse for his little one and of course I was taking all the scrap wood as usual, it was an easy project. I used kitchen wire for the back to give the farm feel. The first time I shared this It was white with some red aging throughout  here it is now.

I placed a big shelf underneath to display some collections. I have a vintage milk pitcher A very old Gold pan that was used way back when for panning for gold ,that I bought at an auction in town.

I wanted to bring out the chestnut color used on the faux brick accent wall and the chestnut wood slab wall that I had painted.

Remember ladies to be able to construct some fun projects you will need the following:

A jigsaw
small screw gun
palm sander
hammer
tape measure
various sizes nails and screws
Philips  and regular size screwdrivers
A  tool box  that can fit everything so you can take it where ever

I know many have their husbands to do the wood work but for me I can't wait so I do it myself.

I am currently making a vintage look screen door, its a couple day project but I will be sharing it real soon so all come now!

                                    Have a great day!

vintage bread box turned into A Bunny hutch..just in time for Easter

Hi and welcome, with Easter around the corner I am planning some nice Easter crafts. I had a vintage bread box that I picked up from our local thrift some time ago It was an ugly color so I gave it a white wash. I had some plastic eggs that I sprayed white and speckled black, I added some raffia and some old bunnies. I crafted a wee pink bunny banner made from brown paper grocer bag.

I can remember going into the bunny hutch as a child and dressing the little bunnies with doll clothes. grama would come and chase us out, so we would go to the huge tree and eat the dark sweet berries until she went back in and then we would return to our baby bunnies. Sweet Memories!

 Just a little Easter Whimsy!

 Happy Crafting

A Crafted sign included in a shower room refresh

Hi there, so very happy you could stop on by......I have Spring on the mind how about you? I know what you are thinking.......this lady Florida where it does not even snow, yes you are right but we still have seasons here for instance we have no rain on a usual note for the winter months which means dead grass, so it is in kind of a dormant state, unless you water it allot which we do not do. Our winter has been mild I don't think we had any days under 40 degrees. Any how about some Spring????? sounds great right??

After a little shopping buying some new paper to line all the kitchen drawers, cabinets part of my Spring cleaning agenda. So I thought I would craft a new sign and spiff the shower room up a bit. I had seen this sign somewhere online for sale when I tried to find it I had no luck but made one out of some old wood from my stash.

Just some old wood can become a vintage style sign that can give any room some character. If your not crafty or an artist don't worry there are stencils or freehand anything goes you can search the internet and find something you like and go from there. If you don't have a wood stash that's ok, I see that Home Depot is selling precut pieces of wood great for signs and at a reasonable price.
 Just a simple Wash
I had shared the shower room makeover and you can see it here: http://mrsblackstone.blogspot.com/2015/02/done-with-that-terrible-wallpaper.html
A simple red shaded shutter propped in the corner adds a vintage touch. The painted border with all words shower was done with the shower redo previously.

Sorry for the dark pictures but I  cant say enough about how handy this simple huge bicycle basket is it holds our towels faithfully.

Of course I had to add a rooster who sits on a bed of country material

There is a list of some links that will feature some of the signs that I have crafted.

COME SEE WHATS NEW .....accent walls and more!

Welcome friends.....so happy you could stop in today! We have been busy here doing many home repairs and getting things in order for the super hot summer ahead of us. To me nothing makes more of an impact than an accent wall. With just a lick of paint and a little imagination you can transform any room into a beautiful place to enjoy with family and friends. The only problem is a huge 70" 3-D tv ...and trust me there is no way its leaving. That is Mr. Sweet Tea's pride and joy! So I have to decorate around it and that is a super challenge. So grab a cup of coffee and let me show you around  .......

This was a simple fix for a very tired wall, I simply taped off some dividing lines and used a dark chestnut color and painted it up. When it was completely dried I simply peeled the painters tape and it gives the illusion of slats of wood. So the original paint color is visible when the tape is removed. I did this in just a few hours.

I left the adjacent wall the brick which I shared some time ago. I added some shelves for interest and I thought it would be a great way to display all my collectibles.

When I see that spring is around the corner I love taking out my huge wooden goose.

This little vignette is on the kitchen butcher block corner...Spring means birds to me.

This is an old red tool box set upside down with my favorite flowers and a collectible dish. You all know how I love decorating up my stove.

You seen this before it is actually the bottom part of a bakers rack. Its slim body allows for a great island area for prepping food, with a lick of my favorite paint and a little stenciling it fits perfect.

A look at the living room when you enter through the kitchen. The room is large enough to hold the whole big family.

I decided to use my barn light over the island for that bit of extra light ....the kitchen is not that bright seeing the only window looks out to the porch.

These cute flowers are just the tips that have fallen from the whole flower...if you check the stores you can find them sometimes bagged up and very inexpensive, they are just pieces that separate .I have filled little fluted tins with them. I had a vintage picture frame that had fallen apart so I added it to the perimeter of the window.

I sewed this little lace shade for some pretty.

I do hope you enjoyed this  today! Thank you for stopping in!
