Goodbye Vintage Teal .......Hello Mystique Grey, A kitchen evolving!
Hi and welcome....so happy you could drop in today! Evolving is the key word here at STNSA, I love change but change for some is hard and I do understand that, But changing décor to what you love can be very welcoming. You have achieve the balance of new with welcoming vibes so everyone who enters feel like they just walked into a down home B&B. For all those who follow my kitchen has been on board with the color Vintage Teal. I was thinking time to say goodbye since I found this incredible gallon of paint Dark sleek and owns the name "Mystique Grey" Opps paints never come with names so you really have to give them one. This particular paint is from Home depot and it is outdoor which works perfect for counter tops it will stand up to anything.
This paint is available at Home Depot and if bought off the shelf is 49.99 If you are lucky enough to get a gallon from the Opps Counter it is about 9.00 per gallon. Now for you all that are not familiar with Opps paints its a counter of paints usually near the mixing area that customers maybe had mixed but don't like the end result or it may be a missmixed paint that was not mixed correctly but most big box home stores , Walmart, hardware stores that have paint have Opps paints. And if you too are a blogger or just love to paint something up this is heaven!
So along with the counters and these faux shutters and others items also got a lick of the Mystique Grey, the shutters attached to the window sides are actually some doors off of a vintage cabinet.
I crafted a small farmhouse garland for a window topper to match the bottom shutter shelf
The paint went on smooth with just one coat and then topped with a durable poly sealer
Also painted the interior of the open cabinets and the beadboard shelf giving that a weathered look.
Spray painted the metal vintage bread box to match
The white vintage style tile peel n stick got a brown glazing
I had an old vintage frame from a broken mirror that I painted and attached to the open cabinet frames. I decided to hang a winter oil painting on the top open shelf to celebrate the upcoming season.
This will be a better fit for the new kitchen island that I made.
Bye Bye Vintage Teal...……
Have something your tired of looking at? Give it a lick of paint you wont be sorry. When painting countertops I find that out door paint works wonderful but be sure to seal it with polyurethane so that it will be timeless.
Thanks so much for visiting here at STNSA where everyone is made to feel at home.

A POLISH STYLE COLESLAW RECIPE THAT IS SIMPLY DELICIOUS!
Hi there and welcome.... So I bought the Kitchen Aide Chopper I thought I would give it a whirl with making some slaw to go with a fried Shrimp dinner for this evening. This is the best coleslaw with a sweet and salty mixture that is balanced with a splash of white vinegar . So I gathered up a few ingredients....shall we get started?
So for this recipe I used 1/2 head of raw green cabbage, 1/2 of s medium onion, about a quarter of a green pepper, important about a quarter of a green granny Smith Apple, a splash of white vinegar ( don't substitute) about a 1/2 cup of brown sugar kosher sea salt and plenty of black pepper. These are just my eye balled measurements you can do this according to your specific taste.
Ohh and bye bye shredder!
So I basically cut the cabbage into chunks and pulse chopped them and wow how easy! And just the right consistency.
I put the onion and green pepper together so the flavors would marry.
If you notice the chopper top has a hole built in I wont be using this time but ideal for pouring olive oil when making sauces, salsas aioli, hummus or anything your imagination can conjure up.
So after mixing it all together in a huge stainless bowl with my hands of course that's from watching my grandmothers they always used their hand for mixing and I just love that! This will feed 5 or 6 as a side to tonight's tempura fried shrimp dinner. This is also great as a side with meats and BBQ. Hope you'll all give it a try. It is best refrigerated a few hours before serving . This post is my opinion and has no affiliation with Kitchen aide . Enjoy!

REPURPOSED JUNK INTO A GREAT KITCHEN ISLAND!
Hi , so happy you have dropped in! How many of you have furniture, wooded shelves just stashed away hoping you may use it again one day? In my case I had a Bakers Rack that had seen better days and some very old wooden shelves that were in a vintage cabinet that got destroyed in a storm.
So I got to thinking I need a bigger kitchen island, the holidays are soon approaching and I just know that I will be cooking up a storm! So I rambled around and came up with these three items,
I used 2 of the large wooden shelves, cleaned them and a light sanding .
What I did with the bakers rack , I scrapped and sanded the rust gave it a spray of rust lock so no further rust would come back. I took out my sawzaw and cu the top away from the bottom base. I can still use the rack on a different piece of furniture so I saved that. Once everything was prepped I gave the base a good coat of Rust Oleum Black spray paint and if any of you have ever tried their products I give a full 5 Stars , its amazing paint . So when all was dry I brought it on in a placed it in the kitchen. Now it was time to screw on the two shelves measuring everything making sure everything lined up well I screwed it into place. Time to take out my favorite paint and that Rust Oleum Painter Choice white Gloss. I would highly recommend this for any project I have included their paint in many of my posts and never had it fail me .
I wanted a pickled finish not to heavy but light enough to show off the pretty curves, lets take a look....Love that this piece has 2 wicker drawers for storing kitchen towels and potholders.
I simply painted the white on with a brush and kept wiping the paint off easily to get this pickled effect . The finish is very durable and can wash easily. After all was dry I sanded.
I have a stash of vintage spools that have that great worn look so I made a towel holder.
So I think repurposing some old junk is a great way to go, What are you going to make from some junk. Ladies if your going to use a saw zaw please take caution
Thanks so much for visiting!
